This distinctive finish is achieved through PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) treatment. A surface treatment long used in watchmaking and tooling, it deposits a very thin metallic layer (about half a micron) to give stainless steel a striking black chrome hue. Purely aesthetic, this finish does not alter the qualities of stainless steel (effective against oxidation, perfectly inert, odorless, and tasteless) and actually enhances its resistance to wear and scratches.
